Guest Editorial…Keep the pressure on DeVos confirmation

One Senate Democrat after another, going well into the night, will deliver a speech about why he or she thinks DeVos would make a rotten education secretary, in order to sway the one additional Republican senator they need to vote her down.

If Murkowski and Collins are the only Republicans who oppose DeVos' nomination along with all Democrats, the vote would be a 50-50 tie that Vice President Pence will use his vote to break.

Murkowski and Collins's announcement led some to believe that DeVos, who is incredibly and completely unqualified to hold this position, was vulnerable. As it stands, experts say the vote will end in a tie with Vice President Mike Pence, the Senate's president, casting the deciding vote to approve DeVos' appointment.

Since Democrats lost their ability to filibuster presidential cabinet nominees, now they'll just talk. Many people have pointed out that they are both beneficiaries of teachers unions.

Oculus loses big, jury awards $500 million to ZeniMax
The $500m Facebook and Oculus has to pay, while substantial, is much less than the $2bn (£1.6bn) originally asked for by ZeniMax. The heart of this case was about whether Oculus stole ZeniMax's trade secrets, and the jury found decisively in our favor.

Kruck Says even though Senator Toomey was not there to personally accept the letters, or meet with her, she wants him to know that a vote for DeVos goes against his constituents wishes and is bad for school children in Pennsylvania.

With this same common sense in mind, why choose someone like Betsy DeVos who has zero experience with public schools and brings nothing but polemics to the job?

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) said Monday, "Now is the time to put country before party".

Ms. DeVos, you failed miserably at your confirmation hearing, and I trust our senators will reject your nomination. Senators are urging Americans to flood Republican senators with calls and petitions to block Betsy DeVos as the next secretary of education.

"The after-effects of the widespread public backlash to her nomination will linger", she said. "In opposing Mrs. DeVos for being a Christian who supports providing children with access to private and charter schools", writes Reed, "the Democrats are doubling down on a failed strategy of demonizing people of faith". She opposed Trump during the 2016 Republican primary season and instead backed Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Sen. "On the fence", despite having voiced her support.

Democrats have three major qualms with DeVos.

Today the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted along party lines to forward the nomination of Betsy DeVos to the full Senate. That would mark the first time a vice president's tiebreaking vote would be needed to confirm a Cabinet nominee, according to the Senate Historical Office.
