Producer Simon Kinberg on Plans for a 'Fantastic Four' Sequel

This at least seemed to account for all upcoming X-Men titles, despite and solid confirmation from Fox, but now, a new challenger has emerged, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that apparently, longtime series producer Simon Kinberg is in talks to direct an X-Men movie. He has already reportedly written the screenplay. This is considering rumors suggesting the film would be focusing on the Dark Phoenix storyline which centers on Turner's character, Jean Grey.

What we do know is that Sophie Turner will be back, telling HeyUGuys that she'd be shooting an X-Men movie this year - presumably that's Supernova, and not Josh Boone's New Mutants.

When it was released in 2000, X-Men was a fairly straightforward superhero movie.

While I think fans have the right to be nervous about someone possibly making their directorial debut with an X-Men movie, I'd point out that Deadpool marked the directorial debut of Tim Miller, and that turned out OK.

Fans of the X-Men film franchise will recognize Simon Kinberg as one of the masterminds behind the whole thing. Kinberg is probably one in a handful of people who have real clout when it comes to getting X-Men movies made at Fox, but the franchise is going in a very distinct direction that's definitely veering towards starting fresh. With New Mutants on the way - and the cast of young mutants featured in Logan - there's a definite trend of introducing a new generation of mutants for young fans to grow up with.

Logan is supposedly the end for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, yet the overall X-Men series still has to go on. The screenwriter and producer has been involved with the "X-Men" franchise as a writer and producer since the 2006 film "X-Men: The Last Stand".

One point Peña Nieto is sure to bring up is Mexico's role in buffering the USA from undocumented immigrants. Mexican officials, for their part, have denied Trump issued any threats during the conversation.

If true, it would be Kinberg's first time directing a feature film, though he has served as a writer and producer on many X-Men films, including Apocalypse, Days of Future Past, and Deadpool.

"We're about to start shooting the next X-Men, we've just finished shooting Season 7 of [Game of] Thrones, and I've got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts", she said.
