DDCA defamation suit: Ram Jethmalani grills Arun Jaitley for the second day

Jaitley said some important changes have been made in the government's own financial management and the decision has been taken so that adequate sanctions can be made.

Mr Jaitley responded that an election result is the outcome of "several factors in the constituency and not merely a test of a candidate's reputation". Eleven of the questions were disallowed by the court.

To this, minister replied: "I have no personal enmity with him".

Arun Jaitley was cross-examined by advocate Ram Jethmalani, the counsel for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders.

Back in Denver, zoo staff had to initially feed Dobby, but officials say he's now nursing and appears in good health. Apparently giraffe births are all the rage.

Jethmalani asked Jaitely, it was Ms Madhu Kishwar who made a statement on Twitter that you (Jaitley), his wife and daughter are linked to fake companies; but you did not sue her, but chose to sue the Defendant No. 1 (Arvind Kejriwal).

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday appeared before the Delhi High Court in connection with the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) defamation case in which the Finance Minister had sued Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Jaitley said that there are overlapping areas in the meaning of the two words.

The Finance Minister, who headed the DDCA for 13 years, has already tendered evidence in support of his civil defamation suit against Kejriwal and five AAP leaders - Raghav Chadha, Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Deepak Bajpai.

Both Jaitley and Jethmalani are lawyers of enormous repute and their knowledge of the law was at display in the court at Delhi where the cross-examination took place. Jethmalani also demanded from the senior minister if he made any serious effort to reverse the alleged damage before coming to the court, since as per Jaitley's statement, the damage continued for five consecutive days.

Jaitley was asked to justify that how his reputation has been hampered in an "irreparable and unquantifiable" way and secondly, how does this defamation suit has any link with his "personal feelings of greatness".

The cross examination is now expected to continue on May 15 or May 17. However, as on Monday, when 11 of the questions were disallowed by the court, even on Tuesday he made a decision to stay clear of a few of them.

And when Jethmalani showed him the letter and asked if he agreed with its contents, Jaitley went through the same and then said, "I strongly deny the contents of this letter in so far it pertains to me..."

On March 1, the Delhi High Court had dismissed another application of Kejriwal seeking bank account details of Jaitley and his family. The Minister on December 6 previous year appeared to record his evidence after the high court on July 12, 2016 had framed issues against Kejriwal and others, notwithstanding their claim that they had not made any defamatory statement against him in the DDCA case.

Which opponent? I've said it before - the Nate (Diaz) rematch interests me a lot because it's 1-1 and (because of) how the styles match up.
