Kaspersky Lab paid former national security adviser more than $10000

Flynn resigned in February after reports that he misled Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with the Russian ambassador to the U.S.

Flynn emerged in 2016 as a key Trump adviser, speaking at campaign rallies and events throughout the election.

Flynn first acknowledged in a July interview with Yahoo that he had been paid for the RT event in Moscow, but said he "didn't take any money from Russian Federation", instead indicating that he had received payments from his speaker's bureau.

In the letter, Cummings accused Flynn of violating the emoluments clause as it pertains to military regulations that prohibit retired military officers from receiving payments from a foreign government.

Pentagon officials, who have not said what if any actions would be taken by Secretary of Defense James Mattis, noted today that Cummings' latest letter was also addressed to Trump and referred ABC News to the White House.

The US intelligence community has long assessed RT to be a propaganda tool of the Kremlin, writing in its January report on Russian interference in the US election that the organization had participated in disinformation campaigns aimed at the US.

The oversight committee received the documents earlier this month from Flynn's speaker's bureau, Leading Authorities, after

Cummings said he had obtained documents showing that Flynn had received $33,750 for the RT gala appearance.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has sent a letter to the Trump administration inquiring whether Flynn disclosed these payments as part of his vetting process.

Flynn was paid for his work with both companies while he still had top-secret level security clearance, a year after he was sacked as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Wall Street Journal's Shane Harris noted.

Flynn was sacked from the administration after concerns about his contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak. An attorney for Flynn revealed that before Trump's inauguration, the transition team was informed that Flynn was considering filing as a foreign agent with the Department of Justice to comply with the Foreign Agent Registration Act.

"I can not recall any time in our nation's history when the president selected as his national security advisor someone who violated the Constitution by accepting tens of thousands of dollars from an agent of a global adversary that attacked our democracy", Cummings wrote in a letter dated Thursday to Trump, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

Flynn did not respond to a request for comment, Yahoo said.

The email promised to cover all travel costs. In a twist, though, in December, a top Kaspersky Lab official was arrested by Russian authorities and accused of spying for USA companies and intelligence services.

Some media reports said that the Russians arrested were accused of working with the Central Intelligence Agency, though Reuters reported last month that they were accused of leaking information to American companies as part of allegations made by a Russian entrepreneur in 2010.
