Pulse shooter's wife Noor Salman to be freed on bail

Salman is accused of obstruction of justice, and aiding and abetting Mateen's material support to ISIS.

Magistrate Judge Donna Ryu cast doubt on the claims by federal prosecutors that the 31-year-old Salman is a flight risk or danger to public safety. No evidence of ties between Salman and the Islamic State have been found.

In a statement Orlando's Police Chief John Mina said he was "disappointed" by the ruling to free Salman, while some survivors have also expressed shock over the move.

Mateen pledged allegiance to multiple terror organizations before walking into the Pulse, a popular gay nightclub, and opening fire on a near-capacity crowd in the early morning hours of June 12, 2016.

A judge said the "bulk" of the government's case is based on "alleged admissions" Salman made during a 16-hour interrogation during which time she didn't have counsel.

Prosecutors want Salman to remain jailed before her trial in Florida. They say she told Federal Bureau of Investigation agents that she knew Mateen was planning the attack.

Their motion came a day after a judge in California had ordered Noor Salman to be released as early as Friday, saying it's "debatable" whether the government has enough evidence to convict her. U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna Ryu also said Salman, 31, is not risky and there is no proof she has ties to the Islamic State group or holds extremist views.

Further, Salman allegedly told investigators that Mateen was taking steroids and was "pumped up" on the night of the attack, saying "this is the one day" as he walked out the door to head to Orlando.

Prosecutor Sara Sweeney divulged some details of the allegations while arguing against the release of Salman on February 1.

One of Salman's lawyers, Linda Moreno, said the approved release "doesn't usually happen in a so-called terrorism case".
